News Release 12/14/20

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On November 14th 2020 at approximately 6:38 PM, Decatur Police responded to JB’s, located at 1301 N Calhoun in reference to a shooting.  Officers arrived on scene and observed a subject lying on the floor inside of the business, unresponsive.  This subject would later be identified as John Betscher.   

John was the owner of this business and working alone when an unknown suspect pulled up to the drive-up window. This suspect fired multiple shots, striking John and then the suspect drove away from the business north on Calhoun street.  Unfortunately, John would later succumb to his injuries from the gun shots.

There is minimal suspect information, and the Decatur Police Department is asking for the public’s help.

News Release 12/7/20

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week. 

On November 8th, 2020 at approximately 9:50 PM Decatur Police responded to the 2600 block of N Morgan in reference to a home invasion.  Officers spoke to the victim who advised she was standing outside her residence and observed two individuals each armed with handguns approach her.  These suspects forced the victim inside the residence where they began threatening her life.   One suspect fired one shot inside the home which didn’t strike anyone. 

The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money along with the victim’s vehicle. This vehicle was later recovered in the 3400 block of Hummingbird Dr., unoccupied.   

The first suspect was described as a dark skinned black male, approx.5’5” tall, and 190 pounds.  This suspect was wearing a full faced black ski mask and dressed in all black clothing. 

The second suspect was described as a light skinned black male, approx. 25yoa, 6’0” tall, and 180 pounds.  This suspect was observed wearing a blue surgical mask, and all black clothing.

Press Release 11/23/20

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this weeks crime of the week.

On the evening of November 28th 2019, Decatur police responded to the intersection of N Martin Luther King Drive and E Cantrell Street in reference to a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and observed a b/m later identified as Tommy King lying face down in the roadway. Tommy was observed to have been shot multiple times and later passed due to his injuries.

It is believed the suspect who committed the shooting was dropped off in the area by an unknown vehicle.

Witnesses observed seeing a b/m, wearing dark colored clothing, and white shoes chasing Tommy on foot. Witnesses observed this suspect shoot Tommy then turn and run north towards the 500 block of E Sheridan.

It has been approximately one year since this homicide and the Decatur Police Department is asking for your help. News Release 11/16/20

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.   
 
In the early morning hours of October 23rd, Decatur Police were dispatched to the 1400 block of E Hickory in reference to a gunshot victim.  Officers arrived on scene and observed a female named Shatia Brooks lying unresponsive in her bed.  Shatia was observed to have been fatally shot as she was sleeping.  It was later determined that Shatia was pregnant when she was shot.   
 
Detectives observed numerous shell casings in the street nearby the residence where Shatia was shot as well as several bullet defects in the residence where Shatia lived.

News Release 11/2/20

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week. 

There have been several retail thefts that have occurred at Target in recent weeks involving the same suspects.  These suspects enter the store, filling their shopping carts with high dollar items and then exit the store without paying.  The total amount these individuals have stolen has cost the store several thousands of dollars in losses.  There’s evidence to believe these individuals have also committed similar thefts at other Central IL Target locations.

The Decatur Police Department has obtained surveillance photos of the suspects involved.

News release 10/19/20

On October 7th, 2020 at approximately 12:10PM Decatur Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of East Wood in reference to a shooting.  Officers arrived on scene and observed a crime scene.  A gunshot victim would later arrive at a hospital with a non-life threatening injury.  The victim had little information for police regarding the shooting.

Witnesses in the area describe seeing a b/m, wearing a red sweatshirt, committing the shooting.  There is evidence to suggest a blue colored Nissan Altima which was occupied by 3 b/m’s may also be involved.

Suspect vehicle involved in a shooting

 

The Decatur Police Department needs your helping in identifying the location of the suspect vehicle or its occupants in the photographs above.  This vehicle was involved in a shooting today (10/6/20), near Hess Park. News Release 10/5/20

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week. 

On September 14, 2019 at approximately 5:00PM, Decatur Police Officers responded to a shots fired call located in the 1100 Block of E Cantrell. 

On arrival, they located a gunshot victim, later identified as Christopher Stone who was deceased.  The investigation revealed Christopher was attending a gender reveal party when a driver in an older model Sedan rode by and committed the shooting.  The driver of this Sedan was last seen driving west on Cantrell after the shooting.    

Witnesses described the driver of the Sedan to be a b/m, thin build, wearing a bandana over his face.  No suspect has been identified.

News Release 9/28/20

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this weeks crime of the week.

On July 25th, 2020 at approximately 7:00AM Decatur Police responded to Contractors Recycled Material; located at 2290 N Woodford, In reference to an aggravated robbery. 

Upon arrival officers spoke to two victims who advised they were robbed by a suspect who implied he had a gun.  The victim’s advised the suspect threatened each of their lives and forced them to hand over an undisclosed amount of money.  The suspect took the money as well as one of the victim’s vehicles and fled the area south on Woodford street prior to police arrival. This vehicle would later be recovered the following day in the 200 block of W Packard. No suspect has been identified

The victims described the suspect as a b/m, between 35-45 years of age, approximately 5’8” and 180lbs. The suspect was described by both victims to have a deep sounding voice.

News Release 9/21/20

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week. 

On September 22, 2019 at approximately 1:35pm, Decatur Police Officers responded to a shots fired call located in the 900 block of N Morgan. 

On arrival, they located a gunshot victim, who was deceased.  The investigation revealed a passenger in a gold Colored Chevrolet Trailblazer committed the shooting.  Witnesses described the passenger of this Trailblazer to be a b/m wearing a mask.  No suspect was identified.
