Sometime during the early morning hours of May 29th, unknown person(s) set fire to playground equipment located at Decatur Day Care, 2075 E. Lake Shore Dr. Decatur Fire Department Inspectors ruled the fire arson. At this time, there are no suspect(s).

News release 5/13/13

The Decatur Park District Police needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

Sometime between May 8th and May 13th, unknown persons forced entry to a maintenance facility at East Mound Park. Once persons entered the facility, they stole a Kubota, zero turn riding lawnmower, and a golf cart. The Kubota mower has a 54” deck and is orange in color. The golf cart is green with a tan shade cover. Both items are valued together at over $10,000. At this time, there are no suspect(s).

On March 31st at approximately 5:00 am, Decatur Police Officers responded to the Wabash Depot Antique Center, located at 780 E. Cerro Gordo, in reference to a burglary. Once on scene, Officers located forced entry gained to the business, through a rear door. Numerous items of value were stolen from inside. At this time, there are no suspect(s).

News Release 3/26/13

The Decatur Park District Police needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On Saturday, March 16th or Sunday, March 17th, the Ralph Rosser memorial fountain at Scovill Zoo was vandalized, when one or more individuals cut and stole copper tubing and rings from the water feature. The fountain is currently completely disabled until replacement of the tubing, PVC pipe, and copper rings at a cost of $6,486.00.

News Release 2/19/13

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On February 18th at approximately 6:30am, a vehicle was stolen from a driveway in the 200 block of S. 22nd St. At approximately 9:00am the same day, the vehicle was found submerged in Lake Decatur, at the Nelson Park boat ramp with a brick depressing the accelerator. The vehicle was a 2004, dark blue in color, GMC Yukon with IL registration 10063DN, valued at $12,000. There are no suspect(s) at this time.

Between January 18th and January 20th, unknown person(s) broke out three windows at Trinity Baptist Church, located at 1705 E. Wood St. A metal fence post was located at the scene, which was believed to be used to break the windows. The damage to these windows is at or about $500.00. There are no suspects at this time.

News Release 11/12/12

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On May 5, 2008 at 2:30AM, Decatur Police officers were detailed to 643 S. Sycamore in reference to a subject down inside this home. When officers arrived, they located Robert W. Johnson, lying on his bedroom floor, deceased. Investigation showed Robert was murdered and died of a gunshot wound to his head. This case remains unsolved.

News Release 10/31/12

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On October 27 at approximately 7:02 AM, a robbery to a person occurred at Dollar General located at 2922 N. Martin Luther King. The victim was approached by a subject in the parking lot and sprayed in the face with an unknown substance. The victim was then battered and knocked to the ground. Ultimately, the suspect fled with U.S. currency.

The suspect is described as unknown race, unknown sex, 600/husky build, wearing a dark green coat, black pants, gloves and a black ski mask with only the eyes cut out.
